VESevo and Rennstall Esslingen collaborate to deepen tire understanding in Formula Student

VESevo Smart Technologies, an innovative spin-off company from the University of Naples Federico II, welcomed Rennstall Esslingen to Naples for an in-depth exchange on tire performance, viscoelastic analysis and data-driven vehicle development.

The collaboration aims to support Rennstall Esslingen in developing a more precise view of tire behavior through VESevo’s non-destructive viscoelastic analysis. Tires from the team were measured and analyzed to compare different compounds, wear states and mileage.

By combining VESevo’s measurements with Rennstall Esslingen’s own tire test bench data, the team aims to better understand how tire properties evolve over time and under different operating conditions. The collected data will help connect laboratory measurements, simulation and real track performance more effectively.

The outcomes of the collaboration will support Rennstall Esslingen in evaluating tire performance beyond conventional force and temperature data. Understanding how different compounds and wear conditions influence the tire’s behavior can contribute to more informed decisions in tire selection, setup development and vehicle dynamics strategy.

Andrea Genovese, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of VESevo:
“We are pleased to support Rennstall Esslingen in development activities. The team’s technical approach and commitment to engineering make the collaboration particularly valuable. At VESevo, coming from a research background, supporting university teams means helping students connect theoretical models with practical data and develop a deeper understanding of tire behavior.”

Daniel Zenneck, Vehicle Dynamics Lead ‘25:

“The visit to VESevo gave us the opportunity to look at our tires from a completely new perspective. By comparing different compounds, wear states and usage histories, and linking these results with our own tire test bench data, we want to better understand how tire behaviour changes in practice. These insights will help us interpret our data more precisely and make better development decisions for future vehicles.”
